Download and install
Roundhand runs on Macs with Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later. Intel Macs are not supported.
Download it from the download page, open the disk image and drag Roundhand to Applications.
Permissions
Roundhand asks for Microphone and Accessibility permission on first launch. Microphone lets it hear you; Accessibility lets it write into the app in front of you.
If dictation hears nothing, or the text never appears, open System Settings > Privacy & Security, check that Roundhand is turned on under Microphone and under Accessibility, then quit and reopen Roundhand.
Cleanup modes
Offline rules clean up your text on your Mac and are always free.
Cloud cleanup sends the transcript text to a cleanup provider for better punctuation and wording: the managed service that comes with the trial and the Pro plan, or a provider you choose with your own API key on the Power plan.
If the managed allowance runs out or the provider cannot be reached, Roundhand falls back to offline rules.

Account and sign-in
You sign in from the Roundhand app with your email address and a one-time code sent to it.
If the code does not arrive, check your spam folder, then request a new code from the app.
Signing out and back in does not reset the free trial.
Opening plans from the app
To choose a paid plan, the app opens roundhand.dev with a single-use sign-in link, so you do not sign in twice.
If the page says the link has expired or was already used, return to Roundhand and choose a plan again to get a fresh link.
Checkout and billing
Payment happens on Polar's checkout page. Polar is the Merchant of Record and sends your receipt.
Your plan activates in Roundhand once Polar confirms the payment. If checkout is unavailable or cannot start, wait a few minutes and try again from the app.
Invoices, payment method changes and cancellation are in Polar's customer portal, which the app links to. Refunds are covered in the terms.
If you were charged but your plan did not change, write to support@roundhand.dev with the email address you paid with.
Updates
Roundhand checks for updates itself and installs each new version in place.

- How do I set up Roundhand?

- Does Roundhand send my audio or text anywhere?
- Roundhand processes your audio on your Mac, and the audio is never uploaded or saved to disk. Transcript text is sent to a cleanup provider only when cloud cleanup is on, either the managed service or a provider you choose with your own API key. A cleanup request can also carry the identifier of the app you are typing in, its window title, the web address when that app is a browser, and the text already in the field. Nothing is read from password and other secure fields.
- How much does Roundhand cost?
- Roundhand is free to download, a new account gets a 15-day trial of cloud cleanup, and dictation with offline cleanup stays free after it. The Pro plan adds managed cloud cleanup and the Power plan is for people who bring their own API key. Current prices are on the Roundhand pricing page.
- Does Roundhand work without an internet connection?
- Dictation and the offline rules cleanup run on your Mac without a connection once the speech model has downloaded. Cloud cleanup, sign-in and checkout need a connection.

- Is there a Windows version of Roundhand?
